What our interior painting service covers
Most of our interior work in Gloucester County is in homes built from the 1970s through the 1990s, which means we see a lot of the same things: hairline cracks at drywall seams, nail pops, old wallpaper glue, builder-grade flat paint that scuffs if you look at it, and trim that has been painted so many times the profile is soft. None of that is a problem. It is just the prep list.
- Walls and ceilings in bedrooms, living rooms, kitchens, hallways, stairwells, and bathrooms
- Trim, baseboards, crown, and casings, brushed or sprayed depending on the condition and the finish you want
- Doors, interior and closet, including the bifolds everyone forgets about
- Accent walls and color changes, including dark colors that need the right primer to cover in two coats
- Whole-house repaints before a sale, after a purchase, or when the whole place needs a reset
- Minor surface repair that comes with painting: patching, caulking, sanding, and spot priming
Looking for cabinets or a basement ceiling? Those are their own services: cabinet painting and basement ceiling spraying.
How an interior painting job with Monarch goes
Here is what to expect, so you are not guessing.
Estimate and color talk
Ashley comes out, measures, looks at the condition of the surfaces, and talks through colors and sheens. You get a written quote that lists each room and what is included.
Protection first
Furniture moved to the center and covered, floors protected, outlets and fixtures taped or removed. We treat an occupied house like it is occupied.
Prep
Fill nail pops and cracks, sand patches smooth, caulk trim gaps, spot prime repairs and stains. Skipping this is why cheap paint jobs look fine for a month.
Paint
Ceilings, then walls, then trim. Two coats on walls as standard. Cut lines by hand, rolled in consistent passes so the sheen is even in daylight.
Daily cleanup
Tools out of walkways, trash out, and a note from Ashley on where we are and what tomorrow looks like.
Walkthrough
We walk every room with you in good light, touch up anything you spot, put furniture back, and leave labeled touch-up paint.
Picking a sheen for each room
Sheen matters as much as color. Here is how we usually steer it.
| Room or surface | Usual sheen | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Ceilings | Flat | Hides roller marks and imperfections, no glare from windows |
| Bedrooms, living rooms, dining rooms | Matte or eggshell | Soft look, still wipeable with today's washable matte formulas |
| Hallways, stairs, kids' rooms | Eggshell or satin | Takes scuffs and cleaning better in high-traffic spots |
| Kitchens and bathrooms | Satin | Stands up to moisture and wiping; semi-gloss if you want more shine |
| Trim, doors, cabinets | Semi-gloss or satin | Durable, cleanable, and gives walls a crisp edge to sit against |
What drives the price of interior painting
We do not quote from a chart because two rooms the same size can be very different jobs. These are the things that move the number, so you can see where your estimate comes from:
- Square footage of wall and ceiling, not just floor space. Vaulted ceilings and open stairwells add time and ladder work.
- Surface condition. Nail pops, cracks, water stains, old wallpaper, and glossy old paint all add prep.
- How many surfaces. Walls only is one price. Walls plus ceilings plus trim plus doors is another.
- Color change. Going from dark to light, or to a deep saturated color, can mean a tinted primer or a third coat.
- Furniture and access. Empty rooms go faster than full ones. We move and cover, but it is part of the time.
- Paint grade. We recommend products that hold up; we will tell you where a step up is worth it and where it is not.
The estimate is free, in writing, and itemized by room. 10% off any job over $2,500.
Financing available through Acorn Finance. Checking your options does not affect your credit score. See financing details.
Living in the house while we paint
Most of our customers stay home during the job. We work one area at a time so you keep a usable kitchen and a usable bathroom, we use low-odor products in bedrooms, and we close the day with walkways clear. If you have pets, tell Ashley and we plan the room order around them. If you need us to work around a work-from-home schedule, say so at the estimate.
Interior painting around Washington Township
We are based in Washington Township (Gloucester County) and most of our interior work is in Sewell, Turnersville, Grenloch, and the surrounding areas. The split-levels, colonials, and ranchers in developments like Heritage Valley and Whitman Square have a lot of the same builder paint and the same trim profiles, and we know how they behave. See the Sewell and Washington Township page for local details.
Interior painting questions
How long does it take to paint a room?
A standard bedroom with walls and ceiling is usually a one-day job for our crew, including prep and two coats. Add trim and doors and it can run into a second day because of dry time between coats. A whole house is scheduled over consecutive days with a room order we agree on first.
Do I need to move my furniture?
No. We move it to the center of the room and cover it. Small items, breakables, and anything on the walls are easier for you to clear before we arrive, and that saves time on the clock.
Will you fix nail pops and cracks?
Yes. Patching, sanding, caulking, and spot priming are part of how we prep. Larger drywall damage is something to show us at the estimate so we can plan for it.
How many coats do you apply?
Two coats on walls is our standard. Big color changes sometimes need a tinted primer or a third coat, and we tell you that at the estimate rather than surprising you on the job.
What paint do you use?
Quality products from the major brands, chosen for the room. We will recommend a product and sheen and explain why. If you have a brand or a color already picked, we work with it.
Is the paint low odor?
We use low-VOC, low-odor paints in living spaces by default, which is why most families stay home while we work.
Do you paint ceilings and trim too?
Yes. Ceilings, trim, doors, and closets are all part of interior painting, and the quote spells out exactly which surfaces are included in each room.
Is there a guarantee?
Yes. Our workmanship guarantee covers every interior job. If something peels, flashes, or was missed, we come back and fix it.
